Literacy Support

Our program helps young children in grades 1-4 build phonological awareness and word-reading skills to become fluent readers.

About the Service

Is your child reading below grade level? Are they struggling to develop their early literacy skills, such as letter-sound awareness, decoding, or fluency? Are they struggling with spelling?

We provide 1:1 structured literacy support to develop early reading skills in a supportive and nurturing environment. Structured literacy is a highly explicit and systematic method of teaching children to read.

What Makes Tutoring at Hummingbird Different?

  • Our program is led by an Ontario Certified Teacher and overseen by a Registered Psychologist.

  • It is based on the science of reading and Ontario's Right to Read recommendations designed to strengthen your child's early literacy skills.

  • Their progress is measured throughout the program and reviewed with parents.

  • Our targeted literacy program may be covered by group insurance benefits. Please check with your insurance provider for further details.

Children will develop their phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, and decoding and spelling skills. These abilities are the foundation for learning to read fluently and with confidence. Our program is best suited towards students in grades 1-4 who are working on improving their early literacy skills.
